Basic
Information of Benzyladenine
Chemical Name: Benzyladenine
Cas No.: 1214-39-7
Molecular Formula: C12H11N5
Chemical Structure:
6-Benzylaminopurine,
benzyl adenine or BAP is a first-generation synthetic cytokinin that elicits
plant growth and development responses, setting blossoms and stimulating fruit
richness by stimulating cell division. It is an inhibitor of respiratory kinase
in plants, and increases post-harvest life of green vegetables. Influence of
cytokinin as 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) in combination with other methods on
postharvest green color retention on broccoli heads and asparagus spears,
showed positive results for quality retention. Treatment with 10 and 15 ppm BAP
can be used to extend shelf life of fresh-cut broccoli florets and shredded
cabbage during storage at 6±1°C at commercial level.
6-Benzyladenine, also called
6-benzylaminopurine, is a synthetic cytokinin that stimulates cell division in
plants. Among other actions, it spurs plant growth, sets blossoms, and improves
fruit quality.
Cytokinins are in the plant growth hormone
family. As part of his pioneering research in plant growth regulators, plant
physiologist Folke K. Skoog at the University of Wisconsin–Madison synthesized
6-benzyladenine and demonstrated its efficacy.
In a recent C&EN “Periodic Graphics”
page, author Andy Brunning included 6-benzyladenine in a roundup of how “flower
food” helps to preserve cut flowers. He notes that the growth regulator’s
contribution to preservation is maintaining petal colors. 6-Benzyladenine is
similarly used to extend the shelf lives of broccoli florets and shredded
cabbage to make them more attractive to customers.
LEAPChem is continually expanding its scope
within the pharmaceutical chemicals industry. Our passion for professional
development enables us to accommodate our customers’ chemical requirements, and
